Countdown to Queensland Speedcar Championship at Lismore Speedway

Jock Goodyer Triumphs in Australian Pro Sprintcar Championship at Avalon Speedway

Geelong’s Avalon Raceway witnessed a heart-pounding battle on Saturday, April 13, as Tasmanian Jock Goodyer etched his name in the annals of Australian motorsport history. In a dramatic last-lap maneuver, Goodyer secured his maiden Australian Pro Sprintcar Championship title, adding to his already impressive career record.

The Thrilling Duel

For 39 laps, Goodyer trailed local racer Jake Smith, who held the lead. But as the final lap approached, Goodyer seized the opportunity. With nerves of steel, he dove to the inside of turn one, executing a spectacular pass that left the crowd breathless. The roar of engines and the smell of burning rubber filled the air as Goodyer powered his way to victory.

A Remarkable Achievement

Goodyer’s triumph at Avalon Raceway was more than just a win—it was history in the making. By clinching the Australian Pro Sprintcar Championship, he joined an elite group of drivers who have claimed the #1 spot in both open and 360 / Pro Sprintcar competitions. The illustrious company includes racing legends Robbie Farr and Jamie Veal.

In Goodyer’s own words: “To win both titles is pretty cool. In fact, I have now won all three of the winged classes when you add in the F500 title, so maybe it’s time to retire now I have won them all.” His infectious humor and humility shine through, even in the heat of victory.

Runner-Up Jake Smith

Despite finishing second, Jake Smith displayed remarkable sportsmanship. “It’s not like the guy who beat me is a hack,” he said. “Jock is one of the best going around.” Smith’s determination to claim the top spot next year at Simpson Raceway speaks volumes about his competitive spirit.

Tim Van Ginneken’s Heroic Charge

Tim Van Ginneken, starting from position nine on the grid, charged through the field to secure the final podium spot. His journey to the podium was nothing short of miraculous, considering the challenges he faced. “If it wasn’t for our sponsors and my crew,” Van Ginneken shared, “I would have been sitting on the hill watching.” His resilience paid off, and he celebrated his achievement with pride.

The Road Ahead

Goodyer’s victory at Avalon Raceway cements his status as a force to be reckoned with in Australian sprintcar racing. As the dust settles and the cheers fade, one thing is certain: the roar of engines will continue to echo across the speedways, fueled by the passion and skill of drivers like Jock Goodyer.

Congratulations, Jock Goodyer, on your well-deserved Australian Pro Sprintcar Championship title! 🏁🏆
